The 2023 U.S. fashion season is off to an incredible start in New York! From Alice+Olivia to Thom Browne, the CFDA calendar is filled with some of the biggest names in the business, and each show promises to be an Instagramable moment and a memorable piece of fashion art. Simultaneously during fashion week, independent productions showcase emerging designers. Bringing new and unique talent to the forefront of fashion. For those lucky enough to attend a fashion show, it’s important to remember that there’s more to it than dressing to the nines and posing for the cameras. To ensure that you and the other guests have the best possible experience, here are 15 tips to keep in mind:
- Dress to impress! People will be taking pictures and videos of you, so be sure to bring your style A-Game. Dress for attention! The more outrageous the better.
- Come prepared with your ticket and identification. Many shows have limited seating, so make sure you have the required documents to get in. ASAP.
- Respect the designers and their teams. They have worked hard to put together an incredible collection and deserve your admiration and respect.
- Do not be disruptive or disrespectful during the show. Hold the built-up excitement for the finale.
- Pay attention to the runway. Don’t miss a minute of the show by being distracted by your phone or talking to your neighbor.
- Make friends! If you don’t know anyone at the show, make use of the opportunity to meet new people and even network. Chat away!
- Avoid talking about politics or religion. This isn’t the time or the place.
- Be passionate and supportive. Show your enthusiasm for the designer and their work, and never forget to be kind.
- Tag, tag, tag! When tagging, make sure the Tag is large enough to where it’s visible and clickable.
- Be kind, respectful, and say please, thank you, and excuse me.
- Be mindful when voicing an honest opinion.
- NEVER walk across the runway when the show has begun. It distracts fellow attendees and is HIGHLY disrespectful to the models and designers.
- Follow the photographers on social media, and keep an eye out for when they post content links. Often they share where to find pictures of the event during the event. Don’t DM photographers after the show asking for pictures.
- Don’t use flash if instructed; it can interfere with other’s pictures (specially the pro-photographers) and temporarily blind the models.
- Have fun! This is your chance to be a part of the fashion world, so enjoy the experience.
